6/10 - Melancholic emotional Doom

11 tracks, running time 67:03 - Gothic/ Doom metal

Its hard to imagine that 2 guys can come up with some serenely dreary and melodic doom, laced with just a touch of Goth.

Welcome to the dismal world of GRAVE FLOWERS. Formed in '93 by Matte Anderson, Grave Flowers released demo's as a one man band, then for the following albums, his friend Jason Janson joined the band.

GraveFlowers doom filled musical vision is one of beautiful, entrancing passages, painfully slow tempo's , beautiful heartfelt solos, and haunting keys. From the opening track to the last, this is one hell of a serene listen. Emotion is thrown at you, and you have to take notice. The vocals on Incarcerated sorrows are the clincher on this one, as Matte Anderson isn't afraid to let his feelings show .

The songs clock in around the six minute range, and at times your attention span may wander, but this is a really great disc to throw on, have a glass of wine, and just relax.
The gothic elements may bother some, but it really adds to the musical vision of GraveFlowers. Consistent all the way through, this is easily going to become a favorite disc to throw on and unwind.

Fans of Opeth, early Anathema, Katatonia and the likes will find Incarcerated Sorrows a welcome addition to their Doom collection, and some of you sceptics will find that this grows on you like a dismal winter wears you down.
