*** The Musician Advice Section ***
How to get yourself heard/seen:
First off, be aware that it's not just going to happen - you're
going to have to put in a fair amount of work to get out there
and get your band heard. These pages represent some of my
thinking and advice on a few of the resources out there. I've
listed them below, but be aware that this is likely not an exhaustive
list.
One of the most important things to do when you're promoting
yourself and your band is to be creative - don't be afraid of making
your own path and trying something that hasn't been done before,
but also don't completely ignore lessons of the past.
Click each section to see my thinking on that area. Each works
fairly independantly, although there is some flow from section
to section. If you've got any additions or thoughts on any of
these topics, send me an e-mail to the address below.
Radio - Get heard on the airwaves
Mailing Lists - Lifeline to your fans
Street Teams - Getting dedicated fans to help you out
Message Board - Chances to interact
Music sites - Places to be heard and get feedback
Videos - Music with visuals
Easy to find website - Key Words "Easy-To-Find"
Poster, poster, poster - Getting the word out to the town
Promoters - Those who book shows can be allies
The Music/Entertainment Press - Your ticket to (local) fame or infamy
Networking - What it's all about.
I want to know what you think about this section - please e-mail your
comments, suggestions, and additions to the advice herein to:
