*** The Musician Advice Section - Street Teams ***
Getting the dedicated fans to do a bunch of the work for you.
So, you've got a new album coming out, or you're going to be
touring, but you've only got a couple of fans in each of the cities
you want to go to. Organize them and get them to poster and
chat to their friends!
Street teams are used by the largest labels to the smallest independants,
because they work and they save you time and money. Basically, a street
team is a group of dedicated fans that you maintain close contact with,
because they do work for you. You can get them to poster about upcoming
shows/album releases, talk to their friends about your music, bug DJs to
play your music on air, etc. Of course, while they're doing this as a volunteer
thing to help you out, it's also a good thing to reward them - run contests just
for the street team, give them free swag - albums, t-shirts, stickers, guestlist
at your shows - whatever. You decide how much it's worth to you for them to
plaster their neighbourhood with info. about your band. The beauty of this
method is that as your fan base grows, so will your street teams, and as
your street teams get larger and more powerful, you get more exposure,
growing your fanbase.
Street teams can also be used to set up fanclubs and fan sites...
