*** The Musician Advice Section - Message Boards ***
Yours or theirs, this is an opportunity to interact.
Fans are naturally curious about the people in the bands they
like. If they weren't, the entire music journalism industry would
collapse in on itself. Message boards allow for safe interaction
between you and your (potential) fans. Message boards are also
a place where your fans can talk to each other, strengthening
your fan community.
As I alluded to, there are 2 kinds of message boards - Yours and Theirs.
Yours - this is a message board devoted to your band, that
either you, or a member of your street team (I told you they were
useful) sets up. There are some free message board servers out
there, but be prepared for advertising banners.
Theirs - A lot of other people have set up general heavy metal
community message boards. Places like the Braveboard (BW&BK's
message board) and the Unrestrained! Board are hotspots for metal
fans to converge, and thus an easy way to reach a wider audience.
